Summer Vacation grooming

Here are a few helpful hints on what to do before you go on your summer vacation

1)get that hair cut.

Not a short cut but just a clean up, get all the man grooming done.  The ears, neck, brows, and yes, the facial hair.

2)Don’t need to worry about packing full size styling products.

Ask your stylist for samples or if they sell travel sizes.  You don’t want your full size shampoo exploding all over your luggage, or worse that 3.2 oz of $26 pomade getting confiscated at security.   Makes me mad just thinking about it.

3)grow your beard out.

If your on a pleasure vacation grow that scruff, less stuff to pack.

4) get some man scaping done.

If done by your significant other or yourself, just get it done.  I suggest using a zero guard on the back and a 1 or 2 guard on the chest.

What to ask your barber

WHAT TO ASK YOUR BARBER

Tongue tied when you sit in your barbers chair?  Love your barber but the last haircut involved wearing a hat all month.  It could be your barber, it could be you or more likely it could be a miscommunication or lack there of.

Unless your positive they know exactly what you want and you are confident when you say give me the usual your going to walk out happy, remember to have a consultation the when you sit in the chair.  Don’t be afraid to bring in a photo.  Now a days it’s easy to pull a photo up on you phone.  No photo, no problem.  Start with length.

“I want my hair tight on the sides texture on the top”

What we hear and will do…. A number 2 on the sides, maybe disconnected from the top.  Lots of point cutting on sides and top.  Slide cutting on the top.  Send the client home with a dry wax.  Should take more that a few minutes to style.

“I want my hair short and messy.”

What I hear is you don’t really want to look like you got a haircut.  Please don’t come at me with a clipper guard smaller that a 6.  And I like my edge to look a little wispy not so clean looking.   I would send you home with light creamy pomade and would suggest blow drying it in the morning.  Styling time 6mins.

Don’t be afraid to remind us to trim those brows.  A good barber will make sure all your unwanted “extras” are no longer.  Making sure your ears, neck and brows are well maintained, even the beard and mustache at a small extra charge.

If you feel you’re run out of breath describing the new style you want and especially what you don’t want, it’s your barber.  Don’t be afraid to switch to another barber in the shop.  All barbers know keeping you in the shop is the number one goal.  Your may want that new hairstyle today but tomorrow you may want to go back to that haircut and eventually get back in their chair.

The Quiff – A Mans modern cut

The Quiff

A Mans modern cut

My client came in this week and said he’d been listening to Morrissey a lot lately give him a Quiff.  I laughed and and sent him out with a quite awesome looking wavy quiff. I thought through out the rest of my day where the hell did the word “Quiff” come from?

What is a hair Quiff?

In my search I found that Quiff comes from the word “coiffe” a french word meaning hairstyle.  So a modern day quiff is a mixture of a few different hairstyles mainly from the 40’s-50’s era.  Picture a flattop, and a pompadour morphed into one.  If your feeling funky add a slight mo hawk texturizing into the mix.  The sides are shorter most of the time buzzed and the the top goes short to long from back to front.  The longest piece of hair, the one closest to your forehead is the quiff. You’ve seen it on rebel heartthrobs like Elvis and James Dean.

To style: For straight hair, blowdry the front half of your hair straight up, and the back half forward.  style with TIGI “S” factor creamy molding wax.

For wavy hair, towel dry hair apply a small amount of TIGI “S” factor creamy molding wax distribute evenly.  Mold hair back with fingers or wide tooth comb, air dry.

Mr. 007 sporting the classic men’s haircut.  This is the perfect look for the man about town.  First impressions are everything, try this haircut the next time you visit the Captain’s Chair.  Look and feel like a million bucks even if your sporting board shorts and some flip-flops.  The lucky ones get to wear a suit to work only when they want.

Style this cut with a little Woody’s wax.  After a session of surfing your hair will still hold it’s look.  A little saltwater never hurt a dew.
